MK is a Kyoto-based musician,
composer, and sound artist.

Originally from Slovakia, MK is an artist based in Kyoto, Japan. Over years of study, performance, and fieldwork across Europe, Australia, India, and Japan, he has developed an artistic practice rooted in traditional music, composition, and cultural research.

Working with shamisen, fuyara, field recordings, and site-responsive performance, his work explores the relationship between sound, place, and lived experience. Through collaborations across diverse musical traditions and long-term engagement with local communities, he develops performances and recordings that draw from traditional practice while engaging with contemporary artistic expression.

His ongoing artistic project, marekumo, creates works shaped by attentive listening, natural environments, and the subtle character of each location.
